Research Say Twitter Is Social Media Melting Pot
The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project says Twitter is a melting pot for of 8% of Americans.
The research indicated that more blacks and Latinos in the U.S. use Twitter than whites. They also found that those who live in cities are more than twice as likely to use Twitter than those who live in rural areas.
Many policymakers and experts believed there was more of a “digital divide” between whites and minorities because whites are more likely to have broadband internet connection.
Since smartphones and social media sites have risen that gap seems to have reduced.
“The findings around people of color are really interesting and match really well with a lot of the other work we have done recently about how African-Americans and Latinos are very engaged in social media, and how they are very active in the mobile space,” said Aaron Smith, who co-authored the report for Pew.
